Montreal, Quebec
Connecting the threshold between Chinatown, the International Quarter, and Old Montreal, this concrete slab over the underground parking structure is transformed into an urban oasis for local residents, conference delegates, and tourists alike. A bouquet of thirty-one crabapples – Montreal’s official tree – marks the crests of each mound, a topographic response to the site’s constraints. Ringed by a stone border and criss-crossed by meandering paths in Montreal limestone, the garden explodes in a spring profusion of pink blooms and vivid spirea hues.
